While working on a particular theme, basic research helps the students to have a clear understanding of the theme whereas in-class discussions and sharing of ideas boast their confidence which eventually proves highly beneficial when they enter in their professional lives.

Computer Aided Drawing (CAD):-

The hottest trend in fashion and textile designing is the use of Computer Aided Designing for many reasons. It is quick, robust, and accurate and less costly further we can create every form of art using appropriate tools and techniques.
In DSFD learning all such techniques is fun. We offer courses keeping in mind the technological advances in the Fashion and the Textile industry. The course starts from basic use of computers to make the beginners capable of using it effectively. The course then moves to designing with Adobe Photoshop’s tool and techniques. This tool will be utilized for drawing, image editing, rendering fashion and fabric, motif making, textile designs, fashion illustration etc. Freehand/ Illustrator is used to make manufacturing packages. Power & Macromedia Flash is used to create Presentation, Portfolio & Person Website.

Textile designing:-

The art of textile designing is pivotal and very useful. Initial assignments include completion of primary and secondary color wheels and further student’s moves on to composing designs by taking inspirations from objects, persons and places using different rendering methods. Other work taught in textile includes batik, block printing, screen and tie-dye techniques.

Draping

Draping (often called modeling) is the pattern cutting method used by many designers, particularly for couture designs, which enables patterns to be created using a 3D approach of draping fabric onto a body form or workroom stand to interpret ideas. This course covers all of the fundamental material starting from the basics and gradually moving onto advance draping. Students learn fabric draping techniques on the three dimensional figures, work in muslin and drape several design forms.

Pattern Making:-

The art of pattern making is the backbone of the fashion industry. The course starts by introducing the students to the basic pattern making tools and teaching them how to take measurements. Initial work includes the creation of pockets, cuffs, plackets and vents. With the progression of the course, students move on to drafting patterns of skirts, shirts, sleeves and collars with different variations and styles. The aim of the course is to teach the students the pivotal patterns and their variations which can further be developed depending upon the ingenuity and creativity of the individual.

Machine Sewing:-

Stitching like any other subject is of great significance. A fashion designer cannot operate efficiently if this art is overlooked. A designer while working professionally might not need to stitch himself but creating a matchless and refined product requires the designer’s supervision and direction, therefore he/she must have full command over this particular art as well. This notion has directed us in formulating a distinctive and interesting program of study where students are required to do stitching assignments which combines skill and creativity.
